From Ian & Annette: I first met Paul in 1959 on our first day at grammar school in Sheffield. He was always very quiet and reserved, as was I, so I cannot say that I knew him well but I do remember going with him to several Sheffield United matches. At university we did different courses but frequently met in his shared flat. My clearest memory is the day his bedroom window blew in covering him with glass and window frame though luckily he was not injured. As Ian's then girlfriend, I remember meeting Paul when they were at Bristol University. He had a white Mac' which he always wore and with his reserved and distant manner he appeared rather mysterious to me. Later I realised he was a lovely, gentle, shy soul. We hardly saw one another over the years since then but I always felt we were on the same journey together. We were part of each others youth and therefor special. We shall miss him not being in the world with us.
